There are many levels of protection depending on the decibel level you require ranging from low cost disposable earplugs to reusable safety earmuffs. You can visit hearing protection product pages by clicking the links:
- Foam Earplugs are compressed or shaped prior to inserting in the ear. These are low-cost, disposable earplugs.
- No Roll Down Foam Earplugs offer the no roll down convenience of Premolded earplugs with the exceptional comfort of foam earplugs.
- Safety Earmuffs have cushioning that seals around the ears to block noise. These can be worn along with earplugs for extra noise protection.
- Banded Earplugs are flexible tips on a lightweight headband and are quick to put on and take off.
How much noise is too much noise? Hearing protection should be worn in any workplace that exceeds the maximum OSHA noise standards of 85 decibels. If you don’t have noise monitoring equipment, think about everyday machinery such as jackhammers, chainsaws, bulldozers and lawnmowers. If your workplace noise level is more than this, you probably need to supply your employees with the appropriate hearing protection.
OSHA also requires that all safety earplugs carry a NRR (Noise Reduction Rating) label. The higher the number, the more hearing protection you give to your employees.
When selecting your hearing protection supplies, here are some things to keep in mind:
- Review the Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) labeling. It should be in plain view on the product you choose. ]
- Make sure the earplugs fit well.
- Decide if you would benefit more from reusable earplugs or disposable earplugs.
OSHA regulations require new employees to undergo audiometric testing and existing employees to be tested annually to detect hearing problems.
All Safety Products’ Hearing Protection resource section has detailed information on hearing protection that can assist you in selecting the correct safety Hearing Protection to ensure OSHA compliance.
